Kiwanis Club of Pinecrest/Palmetto Bay to host “An Evening of the Arts”

Miami, FL  – The Kiwanis Club of Pinecrest/Palmetto Bay will be hosting “An Evening of the Arts” fundraiser on Saturday, Feb.6th  from 5 to 8 p.m. at Evelyn Greer Park, 8200 SW 124 St, in Pinecrest.

More than 50 paintings by South African artist Simon Pietersen will be up for silent auction or direct sale at the event. Attendees will get a treat of entertainment and complimentary hors d’oeuvres; wine will be available for purchase. Admission is free and the event is open to the public.

The Kiwanis Club of Pinecrest/Palmetto Bay; is part of Kiwanis International and has been serving this community since 2005. Kiwanis International is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time. Kiwanis and its youth-oriented Service Leadership Programs serve communities in more than 70 countries.

Funds raised at this event will directly benefit the club’s charities.

More about the artist

Simon Pietersen is part of the Bateau Laveau group of Cape Town artists that formed in 2002. The artworks produced by Bateau Laveau – be they figurative or abstract – are rooted in the context of the artist's own experiences, of a profound awareness and commitment to creative freedom. One of Pietersen's ambitions is to teach children art, to nurture their self-discovery through creativity. In a way, aspects of his art resemble a world perceived through an eye untainted by cynicism. His favorite genres include still-life and landscape, yet his paintings are filled with human activity and interaction. A sense of community is very important to him as is seen in his paintings of ordinary life. Although devoted to realism, he often experiments with color and imagery to imbue his art with an unexpected surreal mood.
